This Saturday marked my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend which firstly is a pretty big achievement and secondly was the perfect excuse for me to get dressed up and dip into that huge makeup collection of mine. The party season is upon us and this look would be perfect whether your going for a meal with friends or getting glammed up for your christmas party!
I started off with my usual base of Smashbox Photofinish Light which is an absolute must for oily girls and then applied MAC Studio Fix Fluid in the shade NC37 with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Studio Fix is long wearing and photographs brilliantly meaning it is my go to foundation for a night out.
For my under eye area I used Bobbi Browns Porcelain Peach Corrector with Rimmel Wake Me up concealer in Soft Beige to highlight my cheek bones. I then started on my eyes using MAC Satin Taupe eye shadow all over the lid, blending up to the crease and slighltly winging out. Using the same shadow I then dragged the colour onto my lower lash line to create a smoky effect,I have mentioned before my love of a good smokey eye and as saturday was a special occasion I added a pop of blue to mine using Maxfactors Saphire Rage shadow onto the lower lashline over the Satin Taupe.
For lashes I kept it natural, I have really gone off strip lashes recently and am embracing my natural lashes. I used my lash curler from MAC and then applied N07 Extreme Length Extend Mascara. This mascara added length but didn’t add much volume so I added some Model Co lash fibres to add some additional thickness.
Now that my eyes were complete I moved on to contouring using MAC’s scuplting powder in the shade dark, this is one of MAC’s newest products which I have mixed reviews about- I will post a full review for you soon! I blended my contour with Mac Mineralise Skin Finish in Medium and on my cheek applied Benefits Coralista Blush topped off with MAC Global Glow highlighter on the cheek bones.
As I was going for a meal I kept my lips natural using MAC Myth lipstick and Lipglass in Prrr. This look would work equally as well with a brighter shade, my choice would be Sleek lipstick in Mystic or MAC Girl About Town.
I don’t know about you but I am massively struggling to get up in the mornings at the moment due to the fact that it’s so dark it still feels like the middle of the night. My alarm gets snoozed a minimum of 3 times which means I am left with very little time to get ready for work! It’s a well known fact that I love makeup however on days like this I reach for my daily essentials that I know will see me through my working day.
Quick every day makeup…What you will need!
Long wearing foundation
Every girl should own a long wearing foundation! Being oily skinned means that a long wearing matte foundation will always be my first choice when it comes to a long day in the office. For a quick application and flawless finish I use my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
Best High End: Estee Lauder Double Wear
Best Budget- Revlon Colour Stay for oily skin
Contouring doesn’t have to be technical or take hours; I use a matte bronzer to define my cheek bones and lightly dust over my forehead to give a bronzed finish.
Best High End: MAC Give Me Sun Mineralise Skin Finish
Best Budget: W7 Honolulu Bronzer
A Shimmer Blush
A shimmer blush will brighten up any look especially when you’re keeping your makeup simple, a natural peachy tone would be my go to for every day makeup which will compliment your contour perfectly.
Best High End: MAC Style Sheer tone Blush
Best Budget: Sleek Rose Gold Blush
I like to keep my eyes natural for work meaning no eye shadow just a quick curl of my lashes and a good few layers of mascara.
Best High End: Lancôme Hypnose Drama
Best Budget: Maybelline The Falsies
A berry coloured shade is my first choice for everyday, just enough colour to accentuate my natural lip colour.
Best High End-MAC Lovelorn
Maybelline-Moisture Renew in Vintage Pink
To finish off the look I use a powder, my first choice is MAC Studio Fix Powderwhich is actually a powder foundation but I find this suits my oily skin perfectly. I haven’t yet found a worthy budget alternative so any suggestions are welcome!
Another day means another foundation review! Apologies for the lack of posts in recent weeks I’ve been super busy and it seems by blog has been neglected in the process.
I’ll be honest I’ve never really been interested in powder foundation before but heard such good things about Bare Minerals I thought its only fair I give it a go. I’ve never really understood the concept of powder foundation or believed it could provide the coverage of a liquid foundation. This however has potentially changed my mind!
I’ve been wanting to review this for a while but unfortunately I needed a week in the sun before I could even contemplate wearing the shade I had been matched up to. Either Boots had really bad lighting or the assistant mistook me for an oompa loompa! That said the shade R350 is the perfect shade for when I’m on holiday which you can see from my picture is more like the colour of bronzer.
Bare Minerals have a brush specially designed to use with this foundation however it’s pretty pricey and as long as you have a flat topped brush it will do the trick. I like to use either a Real Techniques Buffing Brush or Real Techniques Kabuki Brush to buff into my skin and build coverage.
The coverage can be anything from natural to full coverage and you can build up gradually, in fact I was surprised how full coverage this could be. I personally really like this foundation for holidays what I love is that it’s like your skin but with a smoother more even finish. Like your skin but better!
Now for cons! If you have blemishes or spot prone skin this foundation isn’t going to look as great or provide the same finish as liquid foundation. I love this foundation for good skin days but it’s just not in the same category as a liquid foundation for covering blemishes and it can get a little cakey if you keep trying to cover them.
As for staying power this holds up pretty well when teamed with primer. A few blots are needed throughout the day but what oily girl doesn’t! After a busy day in the office I still look presentable so this passes the test.
So my final thoughts on Bare Minerals Ready Foundation…If you have relatively good skin this is a really nice foundation that will provide a flawless finish, buildable coverage and its quick and easy to apply. If your super oily and spot prone I would stick to liquid foundation I really like this foundation but I’m not a powder foundation convert by any means!
For those of you that follow my blog regularly you will be aware my skin struggles. It’s been about 5 weeks since my previous post and I promised I would keep you all updated on my progress so here I am.
Firstly I would just like to say thank you for all the kind messages and comments it was quite hard for me to open up about such a sensitive issue but I had such a fantastic response. If you didn’t catch the first part of my story you can read it here:
I can’t believe I am actually saying this but I believe finally I am starting to make progress! It’s been a very long road but I’m finally starting to see results. Cue smiley face! 😊
To recap in my last post I had just started to use Skinoren Azelaic Acid along with Erythromycin oral antibiotics. Since then I have been put on repeat prescription for the Erythromycin and am taking 1 tablet twice a day and I apply the Skinoren cream morning and night.
At first I didn’t think much to this and it’s very very slow progress however I would say that this has helped with inflamed acne. I don’t get as many big spots as I used to but my main concern was the congestion underneath my skin and I really don’t think it’s works for that.It also gives me ridiculous hunger pangs all the time which is really annoying!
Skinoren Azelaic Acid 20%
So this stuff works but it’s not a quick fix! Again it’s a very slow process but you can see from my photo it did reduce the congestion under my skin. Not completely but I think over time the effectiveness will increase. Which is really not what you want to hear when you have bad skin you just want it gone!
MD Formulations Anti Blemish Solutions Kit
This stuff trumps both of the above! I’ve been using this set for about a week and I literally feel like my spots are melting away. My pores are tighter, my skin is less oily and the texture of my skin has improved massively.
The kit consists of a facial gel wash,a toning lotion, clearing gel, moisturiser, eye cream and sun protector and it works wonders. I was highly recommended these products by a friend and was able to purchase online from Feelunique.com. I am so impressed with the results even after a weeks use and will be posting a full review of the set in the coming weeks.
Right to left- Before Treatment, Using Erythromycin, Erythromycin & Skinoren, above combined with MD Formulations Anti Blemish Kit
It seems like things may be looking up for my skin and I’m hoping it stays that way! I will keep you updated with my progress and hope that this post helps anyone else that may suffer with problem skin.
I promised in my last post that I would review Mac’s Studio Sculpt foundation so here I am!
I have used Sculpt in the past and not had the best experience but after seeing so many makeup artists working with this and getting such beautiful results I had to try it again.
I’ll start by saying if your an oily girl like me this is not a breeze to work with! Its not to say however that this can’t be a gorgeous foundation if your prepared to put a bit if effort in and work with it!
Sculpt is a gel based foundation so its not as runny as your average liquid foundation. For any of you that have used the Clinique Stay Matte its a similar texture to that but much fuller coverage. You only need a pea size amount to cover the whole face in fact I always forget and squeeze out too much and have to dispose of the excess.
I like to apply Sculpt with a regular flat foundation brush either a Mac 190 or Real Techniques foundation brush. It took me a while to figure out the best way to apply this foundation; My first choice would usually be the Beauty Blender but in this case I found it made the foundation look much to heavy. My second choice would usually be the Real Techniques Buffing Brush but I felt this moved the foundation around my face too much and wouldn’t set.
I wear Sculpt in the shade NW35 and as previously mentioned in summer I tend to switch from usual NC to NW to compliment my tan. I would definitely say that the shades in Sculpt are not as exaggerated as the Studio Fix the undertones are not as strong which suits me just fine as I do think the SFF can be overly yellow or orange.
I apply a thin layer of Sculpt with my foundation brush in small strokes and gradually build up until I’m happy with the coverage which can be anything from sheer to full. The finish is demi matte and oily girls will definitely need to prime and powder if you want to use this. I apply Studio Fix Powder Plus over this in the shade NC45 which compliments the foundation perfectly. For reference I always use Smashbox Photofinish Light Primer which is a must for my oily skin.
I love how this foundation looks when its applied-slightly glowy but with enough coverage. Oily girls will most definitely need to blot throughout the day and you will find that this doesn’t last as long as a true matte finish foundation but that said it is a really gorgeous foundation and a great alternative to the Studio Fix Fluid. After all you are meant to glow in the summer!
The second look I have created today and is inspired by Billie Faiers from TOWIE who always has flawless glowing skin. For those of you that haven’t heard of Billie I have posted a picture above. The girls in TOWIE always have flawless make up its all about the glamour, glowing skin and lots of tan! I have used the same foundation used by both Billie & Sam Faiers to achieve this look.
To start I prepped my face with Smashbox Photofinish Light Primer I then dampened my beauty blender and applied a pea size amount of Laura Mercier Silk Crème foundation to the back of my hand. This foundation is a crème based foundation and its really thick so a little goes a long way. Laura Mercier recommends shaking the bottle before use and using a damp sponge to apply. I wouldn’t recommend using anything other than the beauty blender to apply this foundation otherwise you tend to find it just smears and moves around your face. If applied with a beauty blender this will give a full coverage flawless satin finish. I used the shade cashew beige which I would say compares to NC40.
Laura Mercier Silk Crème claims to be a flawless light diffusing, wrinkle vanishing, long wearing base. This foundation really is flawless but oily girls need to be realistic-This is a luminous crème foundation so you are going to need to set with powder such as Mac Studio Fix and blot throughout the day. Its another one of those I keep to one side for nights out rather than a go to for every day.
As you can see Billies under eye area is heavily highlighted so I used Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach and a few drops of Mac lustre drops on the cheek bones. You most definitely need to apply a concealer with this foundation as it does crease in the under eye area. For brows again I used Mac Spiked & the Mac Brow Gel in Show off which is my everyday brow kit.
On the eyes I went for Mac Scene shadow as a base and used Collection black gel liner and also running =this along the lash line and smudging with a black shadow from the Sleek Storm palette. I then added a flick into the corners of the eye and applied Rimmel black kohl liner in the waterline. To finish I used Urban Decay half baked in the corners to highlight and applied Chanel Le Volume Mascara to my lashes. Of an evening I would also add some false lashes to really glam this up.
I used my favourite bronzer Mac Give Me Sun and as this is a heavily bronzed look rather than using my usual angled brush to apply I used Bobbi Browns blush brush to get a more all over glow. On the cheeks I used Clinique’s Precious Posy blush which is a deep coral which shimmering particles and really makes the cheeks pop. I highlighted with Mac Soft & Gentle which is another product that Billie herself uses.
I applied a Mac lipstick in the shade Dressmaker Dressmaker which is a lovely soft peach shade and a slick of W7 Peach Lights Gloss to finish.
If anyone has any suggestions of any other looks they would like to see then please do let me know.
Whether you love or loathe Kim Kardashian there is no denying her makeup is always flawless and on point. Kim has made it very public that her favourite foundation is Makeup Forevers HD foundation which I have also used to create this look.
To give you a little more info on the HD Foundation;Makeup Forever is an American brand and its not readily available to purchase in the UK. There is only one place that I know of where you can get your hands on this which is The Guru Makeup Emporium. (I will post the link below) This also means you have to match yourself up as best as you can which I did by using Findation.com. I wear the shade N155 which I would say is close to Mac Nw30 or Double Wears Ivory Beige.
One thing to note about this foundation is that is has quite a runny wet consistency so I find the best way to apply is with a Buffing Brush so you can really work it into your skin. This is a lovely foundation and has a gorgeous finish but being an oily girl it wouldn’t be my first choice for every day but works really well for nights out and its something I’ll be using on holiday when I want a more glowy finish.
After applying my foundation and primer I used Macs Mineralise Concealer under the eyes and down the centre of the nose in the shade Nw20. This is a really creamy hydrating concealer so it gives a lovely dewy finish.Kim always wears a strong brow so I filled mine in with Mac Spike pencil and a good coat of Mac Brow Gel in Show off to really set them into place.
For eyes it had to be a smokey eye but as it was daytime I have opted for a more natural smokey eye using Sleeks Au Naturel & Storm Palettes along with Rimmels brown kohl liner in the waterline. I curled my lashes with Mac’s eyelash curler and applied lashings of Chanels Le Volume mascara.
This look is all about a heavy contour so using Macs Give Me Sun Bronzer and an angled brush I sucked in my cheeks to create a solid line as well as applying bronzer on my forehead close to the hairline. I blended this in with Mac Studio Fix Powder in the shade NC42. To warm up the cheeks I used Mac Blush in peaches which works really well with a tan it gives a lovely terracotta glow.To finish I used Mac Soft & Gentle Highlighter on the tops of the cheeks, down the nose and the cupids bow.
Kim usually wears a pinky nude lip and I happen to know that some of her favourites are Mac’s Angel Lipstick and Nars Turkish Delight Gloss. I have opted for Loreal’s Colour Riche Lipstick in Doutzens nude to complete this look.
For those of you that are a fan of Kim’s look this is really easy to do even if you are new to the whole highlighting/contouring technique. If your wanting to purchase the HD Foundation here is the link as promised:
