Whether you love or loathe Kim Kardashian there is no denying her makeup is always flawless and on point. Kim has made it very public that her favourite foundation is Makeup Forevers HD foundation which I have also used to create this look.
To give you a little more info on the HD Foundation;Makeup Forever is an American brand and its not readily available to purchase in the UK. There is only one place that I know of where you can get your hands on this which is The Guru Makeup Emporium. (I will post the link below) This also means you have to match yourself up as best as you can which I did by using Findation.com. I wear the shade N155 which I would say is close to Mac Nw30 or Double Wears Ivory Beige.
One thing to note about this foundation is that is has quite a runny wet consistency so I find the best way to apply is with a Buffing Brush so you can really work it into your skin. This is a lovely foundation and has a gorgeous finish but being an oily girl it wouldn’t be my first choice for every day but works really well for nights out and its something I’ll be using on holiday when I want a more glowy finish.
After applying my foundation and primer I used Macs Mineralise Concealer under the eyes and down the centre of the nose in the shade Nw20. This is a really creamy hydrating concealer so it gives a lovely dewy finish.Kim always wears a strong brow so I filled mine in with Mac Spike pencil and a good coat of Mac Brow Gel in Show off to really set them into place.
For eyes it had to be a smokey eye but as it was daytime I have opted for a more natural smokey eye using Sleeks Au Naturel & Storm Palettes along with Rimmels brown kohl liner in the waterline. I curled my lashes with Mac’s eyelash curler and applied lashings of Chanels Le Volume mascara.
This look is all about a heavy contour so using Macs Give Me Sun Bronzer and an angled brush I sucked in my cheeks to create a solid line as well as applying bronzer on my forehead close to the hairline. I blended this in with Mac Studio Fix Powder in the shade NC42. To warm up the cheeks I used Mac Blush in peaches which works really well with a tan it gives a lovely terracotta glow.To finish I used Mac Soft & Gentle Highlighter on the tops of the cheeks, down the nose and the cupids bow.
Kim usually wears a pinky nude lip and I happen to know that some of her favourites are Mac’s Angel Lipstick and Nars Turkish Delight Gloss. I have opted for Loreal’s Colour Riche Lipstick in Doutzens nude to complete this look.
For those of you that are a fan of Kim’s look this is really easy to do even if you are new to the whole highlighting/contouring technique. If your wanting to purchase the HD Foundation here is the link as promised:
On a slightly lighter note than my previous post last night saw me get glammed up and head out for cocktails with my friends. You can read all about my bank holiday look below.
To start I prepped my face with my favourite moisturiser Dermalogica Active Moist which is perfect for oily skin. I then applied Smashbox Photofinish Light Primer to create a smooth base. For foundation I used Mac Studio Fix Fluid which is my go to for nights out and applied with a damp beauty blender. I used the shade NW30 to add some warmth to my skin.
I brightened the under eye area with Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach and a few drops of Macs Lustre Drops on the cheek bones to highlight. I set my foundation and concealer with Mac Studio Finish Powder in NC42.
I have green eyes and I find that the best colours to accentuate them are brown or bronze shades. I chose to use Mac Amber Lights all over the lid and used a Collection Gel Eyeliner to tight line and ran across the lid to create a subtle winged look .In the waterline I used A Rimmel black kohl liner and lashes was my go to Chanel Le Volume Mascara! For my brows I used Mac’s pencil in Spike and Brow Gel in Show off.
To contour I used a Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Give Me Sun which I picked up from Mac on Wednesday which is really lovely. I wanted to create a warm rosy look so applied Bobbi Brown Pink Coral Shimmer Blush to the apple of the cheeks and a healthy amount of Macs Soft & Gentle highlighter on the cheek bones, down the nose and on the cupids bow.
To compliment the bronze eye shadow I opted for Macs Please Me lipstick which is a soft girly pink. The matte finis is perfect for nights out as it doesn’t budge.
I usually wear my hair down for nights out but fancied a change last night and wore my hair in a chic up do using my Balmain B-Loved. I washed my hair earlier that morning and left to dry naturally.
To start I teased my hair and sprayed short bursts of Schwarzkopf Got2b big sexy hairspray to create volume at the crown. I put my hair in a low pony tail and looped through to create a bun letting any loose bits fall down to frame my face. Clipping the Balmain B-loved over the bun I had just created I then swirled it round to create a large chignon and pinned into place. I sprayed this with hairspray to hold and pulled out a few bits from the bun to give it a messy look.
I hope you all have a great Easter
Highlighting & Contouring is hugely popular at the moment thanks to Kim Kardashian who is a pro at this technique. I would just like to say that I am not a Makeup Artist but I do have a few hints and tips along with some of my favourite products which I use for creating the highlighted/contoured look.
I’ll start with contouring, for those of you that don’t know contouring in simple terms is basically creating a shadow, for example creating the illusion of higher cheekbones or slimming down the nose. As I have quite a round face I personally like to use contouring to sculpt my cheekbones and slim down the face.
There are lots of products on the market for contouring but I find the best are matte bronzers-No sparkle allowed! My favourites would have to be Diego Dalla Palma Tanning Cake or Benefit Hoola Bronzer. My skin ranges from NC20-NC41 depending on the time of year and I find that these products are the perfect shade to create a shadow without being too dark or looking mucky. I also have the Chanel Soleil Tan cream bronzer which is also lovely and would work well with someone with a lighter skin tone.
I apply my bronzer after my foundation and before my powder I like to use and angled brush either the BK04 by Crown Brush or a Mac 168. If I’m using a cream bronzer such as the Chanel I would use the Real Techniques Contour Brush. To create a contoured look I suck in my cheeks so that I can see the hollow of my cheeks and gently build up a shadow pushing the product back into my hairline so that there is a visible line.
I then take my Bobbi Brown blush brush and gently blend away the line and also apply bronzer to any other areas that the sun may naturally hit such as the top of the forehead. I then apply my powder to set my foundation and also blend away any harsh lines.
Some people like to contour their nose to give the illusion of a slimmer nose, if you’re wanting to do this I would recommend taking a fluffy blending brush such as the MAC 217 and gently running the bronzer either side of the bridge of your nose.
Highlighting is used to lift and brighten the face, there are various different products you can use to highlight and my favourites consist of using concealer,a highlighting pen and also a powder highlighter. Kimmy K has this one nailed and looks absolutely flawless however her technique is quite time consuming and involves a lot of blending which I certainly don’t have time for in the mornings.
My Highlighting Routine
To highlight I first of all like to apply concealer on my under eye area I do this using either my ring finger and gently tap to blend or using a Mac 188 brush. My favourite products for my under eye area are Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach, Mac Pro-longwear Concealer (NC20) & Mac Mineralise Concealer (NW30) to name a few. I will do a post on my favourite concealers later this week. I then apply a highlighter on the cheek bones, down the bridge of the nose, cupids bow and on the forehead fanned out as shown in my picture below. I like to use a highlighting pen such as Mac Prep +Prime Light Boost, Touche Éclat, Rimmel Wake Me Up (Soft Beige) or the Mac Lustre Drops which is a liquid highlighter and perfect for nights out. I blend all of this in with a real techniques buffing brush.
To finish off I apply blusher to the apples of the cheeks and Mac Soft & Gentle Mineralise Skin Finish on the top of the cheekbones and down the centre of the nose.
I know I don’t look quite as good as Kimmy K but this is simple way to create the highlighted/contoured look perfect for beginners who are wanting to have a go at contouring.
