Brow set is a staple in my makeup bag, Girls if you don’t own or know about brow set then get to know! MAC Brow Set in the shade Show Off is well noted in my blog as one of my favourite products so when I heard L’Oreal were bringing their own version out I was super excited to get my hands on it. For the Brow Set novices out there, Brow set is a great alternative for those of you like myself that aren’t too handy with a brow pencil or it can be used in conjunction with a brow pencil to tame unruly brows or plump sparse brows. I would recommend if you are going to use a Brow Gel alone that your brows are neatly plucked and not too overgrown!
Right L’Oreal Brow Set Medium/Dark Left Mac Brow Set Show Off
MAC Brow Set £13.50
This Brow Set comes in 3 shades, I use the darkest shade which is Show Off. As much as I love this product it has to be said the shades are a little strange, Show Off the shade that I use is a dark brown but has a mahogany/reddish undertone, the next shade is Beguile which I would recommend for slightly lighter brows has a gold undertone and there’s also a clear shade.I am surprised that there is not a bigger shade range or more neutral shades however once applied the undertones are not as prominent and you are left with gorgeous results. To apply, firstly I comb my brows with and old (clean) mascara brush to ensure my brows are in place and then I gently comb on the Brow Set making sure there is not too much product on the wand. This fills in any gaps, plumps my brows and sets them into place without them looking stiff or clumpy. If you do happen to make a mistake I find that its quite easy to wipe away without looking smudged or having to start again.
L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper £5.99
It has taken me quite some time to get my hands on this but finally after several trips to Boots I now have this in the shade Medium/Dark. A great starting point is that its half the price of the MAC Brow Set priced at £5.99, and this also comes in 3 shades, Blonde, Medium/Dark and Clear. The first difference is the size of the wand which is much smaller, I do find that this makes it much easier to control the product and comb the hairs into place. Both the consistency and the colour are vastly different to the MAC Brow Set,the shade Medium/Dark definitely bears more ashy tones and is not a deep as Show Off so if you were to have dark brown or black hair you may find that this is not quite dark enough for you. I have also found that The Brow Artist Plumper dries much faster and some what stiffer which makes it quite hard to correct if you do happen to make a mistake.
Top L’Oreal Brow Plumper Bottom- Mac Brow Set
I’m really torn as I like both products and they both have some great features, I love the smaller brush on the L’Oreal Brow Plumper but I also love the colour and depth that the MAC Brow Set provides. If I had to choose it would have to be the MAC Brow Set as the consistency just slightly trumps the Brow Plumper, However if you do have slightly lighter brows or don’t want to spend £13.50 I would definatley recommend the L’Oreal Brow Plumper!
As some of you may know my blog was selected to feature in last weeks New Magazine in an article about adult acne. This was not only really exciting for me but also an oppurtunity to share my experience and show people that they do not have to put up with Adult Acne and that there is something can be done. For those of you that didn’t get to read it I have copied the link below, I have to say massive a huge thank you to the Pharmacy2u team who have not only prescribed me with medication to finally control my acne but also allowing me to get my story out there and hopefully show people they are not alone.
This Saturday marked my 3 year anniversary with my boyfriend which firstly is a pretty big achievement and secondly was the perfect excuse for me to get dressed up and dip into that huge makeup collection of mine. The party season is upon us and this look would be perfect whether your going for a meal with friends or getting glammed up for your christmas party!
I started off with my usual base of Smashbox Photofinish Light which is an absolute must for oily girls and then applied MAC Studio Fix Fluid in the shade NC37 with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. Studio Fix is long wearing and photographs brilliantly meaning it is my go to foundation for a night out.
For my under eye area I used Bobbi Browns Porcelain Peach Corrector with Rimmel Wake Me up concealer in Soft Beige to highlight my cheek bones. I then started on my eyes using MAC Satin Taupe eye shadow all over the lid, blending up to the crease and slighltly winging out. Using the same shadow I then dragged the colour onto my lower lash line to create a smoky effect,I have mentioned before my love of a good smokey eye and as saturday was a special occasion I added a pop of blue to mine using Maxfactors Saphire Rage shadow onto the lower lashline over the Satin Taupe.
For lashes I kept it natural, I have really gone off strip lashes recently and am embracing my natural lashes. I used my lash curler from MAC and then applied N07 Extreme Length Extend Mascara. This mascara added length but didn’t add much volume so I added some Model Co lash fibres to add some additional thickness.
Now that my eyes were complete I moved on to contouring using MAC’s scuplting powder in the shade dark, this is one of MAC’s newest products which I have mixed reviews about- I will post a full review for you soon! I blended my contour with Mac Mineralise Skin Finish in Medium and on my cheek applied Benefits Coralista Blush topped off with MAC Global Glow highlighter on the cheek bones.
As I was going for a meal I kept my lips natural using MAC Myth lipstick and Lipglass in Prrr. This look would work equally as well with a brighter shade, my choice would be Sleek lipstick in Mystic or MAC Girl About Town.
I don’t know about you but I am massively struggling to get up in the mornings at the moment due to the fact that it’s so dark it still feels like the middle of the night. My alarm gets snoozed a minimum of 3 times which means I am left with very little time to get ready for work! It’s a well known fact that I love makeup however on days like this I reach for my daily essentials that I know will see me through my working day.
Quick every day makeup…What you will need!
Long wearing foundation
Every girl should own a long wearing foundation! Being oily skinned means that a long wearing matte foundation will always be my first choice when it comes to a long day in the office. For a quick application and flawless finish I use my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
Best High End: Estee Lauder Double Wear
Best Budget- Revlon Colour Stay for oily skin
Contouring doesn’t have to be technical or take hours; I use a matte bronzer to define my cheek bones and lightly dust over my forehead to give a bronzed finish.
Best High End: MAC Give Me Sun Mineralise Skin Finish
Best Budget: W7 Honolulu Bronzer
A Shimmer Blush
A shimmer blush will brighten up any look especially when you’re keeping your makeup simple, a natural peachy tone would be my go to for every day makeup which will compliment your contour perfectly.
Best High End: MAC Style Sheer tone Blush
Best Budget: Sleek Rose Gold Blush
I like to keep my eyes natural for work meaning no eye shadow just a quick curl of my lashes and a good few layers of mascara.
Best High End: Lancôme Hypnose Drama
Best Budget: Maybelline The Falsies
A berry coloured shade is my first choice for everyday, just enough colour to accentuate my natural lip colour.
Best High End-MAC Lovelorn
Maybelline-Moisture Renew in Vintage Pink
To finish off the look I use a powder, my first choice is MAC Studio Fix Powderwhich is actually a powder foundation but I find this suits my oily skin perfectly. I haven’t yet found a worthy budget alternative so any suggestions are welcome!
In my last post I spoke to you about my current favourite high end mascara ‘Lancôme Hypnose Drama’, However I appreciate that not everyone wants to spend £22.50 on mascara so here I am with a very worthy alternative that won’t break the bank.
The mascara in question is Maybelline ‘The Falsies’ priced at a very reasonable £7.99. The brush is quite a lot smaller than its Lancôme rival however I the find the curved brush enables me to really get in there and grab every single lash. This mascara doesn’t smudge or clump and lasts all day without flaking and really gives me the blackest of black fluttery lashes!
My top tips for luscious lashes!
It has to be said my long lashes would not be achieved by mascara alone and I do have a few handy tips to create long fluttery lashes.
Always curl your lashes
Invest in an eyelash curler; they really do make a difference; a good quality lash curler can perk up even the shortest of lashes! My favourite is by Mac which is priced at £16 and comes with one additional refill. Each refill lasts me a good year so it’s well worth the money.Squeeze, release and I’m good to go!
Use a portable mirror
I always use a portable mirror on a stand and slightly tilt the head this allows me to get really close up and enables me to grasp all of my lashes with the brush. Look up and down ensuring you grab every lash!
Don’t be shy!
Use more than one coat to really dramatise those lashes! If you’re using a decent mascara you shouldn’t have any problems with clumping.
Autumn has officially arrived and with that the return of my blog! Its been a little while since my last post, I took a little ‘Me’ time over the summer to do grown up things like buying my own apartment and I also squeezed in a holiday!
Taking a break means I have so much to talk about so for my first post it only seems right to talk about some of the products I’ve been loving over the summer and into Autumn.
The first thing I have to mention is my skin,Its been a very long emotional journey but finally I can say have clear skin. It’s not perfect but what girl my age can say they never get a spot! It’s hard to believe how bad my skin was when I look back at my previous blog posts. If there is anyone reading this that suffers with oily acne prone skin then I would highly recommend using MD Formulations skin care it has literally changed my life. I started off with the Anti-Blemish kit but now just use the products individually as my skin has improved so much. I use the Facial Cleansing Gel every morning and night while showering, followed by the Glycare Lotion and use the Vit- a-Plus clearing complex if I have a spot emergency. I wasnt keen on the moisturiser that came in the pack,I found it way too drying even for my oily skin but the cleanser, lotion and clearing complex are a total winner and I urge anyone who is suffering with acne fed up with antibiotics to give these amazing products a try.
With summer behind us it only means one thing… Fake tan Thursdays are back! Strangely enough the tan I’m loving right now is one that last year I couldn’t stand! The tan in question is the Vita Liberta Extra Rich Tinted Self Tan lotion, its my go to tan every Thursday at the moment. The tan has a gel like texture and when applied feels virtually undetectable which is where I was going wrong last year- I was applying way too much. You really don’t need to use much to get a flawless, even natural looking tan. The tan claims to give optimum skin conditioning and a perfect fade which I am in total agreement with. This tan really is long-lasting and fades naturally like no other tan I have come across, I don’t feel the need to scrub it all off and start again after 5 days!
One thing I give up when the summer ends is my lash extensions, I think its important to give my lashes a break so am always on the hunt for a great mascara. My current favourite is the Lancome Hypnose Drama and I have to say this mascara is so good I am really enjoying having my lashes natural. The shape of the brush really allows me to coat every single lash and the deep black shade gives me really the really dramatic thick lashes that I love!
So I am totally guilty of neglecting my blog recently- Excuses I know but I have been ridiculously busy!
Anyhow last week I went to Wireless Festival in Birmingham and with Festival season in full swing what better to post about than a festival makeup look.
I have only ever been to two festivals and whist I totally dig festival chic I am by no means a pro at this! Porter loo’s are just not my thing.
The first thing I look for in festival makeup is a long wearing foundation after all it needs to withstand sweat, rain or whatever else the English weather decides to throw at you. MacStudio Fix Fluid is perfect for this! Teamed with primer and powder this will last all day without looking to heavy or false.
I am wearing the shade NC37 applied with a damp beauty blender along with my go to primer Smashbox Photo Finish Light and Studio Fix Powder in NC42. Another festival essential for me is my MAC Blot powder which I keep with me to top up throughout the day and mop up any oiliness!
Festivals can be pretty hectic so I like to combine a corrector with a highlighting pen to look wide awake no matter what time it is. I am using Bobbi Brown Corrector in Porcelain Peach an Mac Prep+Prime pen in Bright Forecast applied underneath the eyes and to the tops of the cheeks.
On my eyes I am wearing MAC Scene Eyeshadow all over the lid and used a black gel liner to create a winged effect. To add a bit of sparkle I used a Mac Pigment in a shimmery lilac shade applied with a damp eye shadow brush to my crease. Apologies I don’t know the colour I bought it in Thailand a few years back.
To brighten up the look and give it that festival vibe I used Mac Parfait Amour eye shadow on the lower lash line paired with a waterproof black liner from Urban Decay in the waterline. One thing I do need to invest in is a good eye primer so any recommendations would be appreciated!
For cheeks I went for a naturally flushed look using MAC Pink Swoon blush and soft and gentle highlighter on the cheek bones for an extra glow.
Lips for me have to be natural- All that drinking makes it all too easy to get lipstick on my teeth or round my face. I went for an old favourite MAC Creme D’Nude lipstick topped up with C-Thru Lipglass.
